Question 77

– About Atheism

by onenessguy Feb 7, 2013

77)    Isn’t this Gospel of Oneness just another religious pipe dream like all other religions—wishful thinking that there must be a benevolent God holding everything together?

Suppose that there is no conscious creator and that everything just happened by blind chance, and that there is no after-life, no real meaning or cosmic purpose to life, and when it’s over it’s over—never more alive again. You would just have to believe it because you can’t prove it.  And if you did believe that, you would still have to give Nature credit for some extreme intelligence in organizing living systems as well as inanimate ones.  You would have to believe that consciousness wasn’t there at the beginning, but had to evolve over the eons. So either way it is a matter of belief.

Sometimes atheists just need to break away from the false notions of God. They need to break away from doctrinal definitions that tell people what to believe about God. If someone just can’t accept the traditional ideas about God and needs a clean slate, then a period of atheism may be good for the soul.  The Gospel of Oneness does not criticize atheists, but accepts them where they are at in their current thinking.

However, there are many people who are convinced through deep inner experience that a Creator God does exist and there is life beyond the bodily existence on this earth. There are many dimensions of reality, and we only live in a three dimensional world. Many of the great saints of all religions have recorded their experiences in the higher realms of existence.  An atheist needs to go through an inner discipline such as following Patanjali’s step by step approach to gain Self-Realization.  If the atheist is unwilling to do this, then he or she is just a blind believer or just has an intellectual or an emotional position.

The Gospel of Oneness has certain principles, that if followed, regardless of our religious beliefs, could help us all to live more harmoniously during the limited time we have on earth.  For example, the Gospel of Oneness stresses that we are all related as Spirit-souls.  We have kinship with one another. The Gospel of Oneness points out that what we do to others we do unto ourselves. Anyone can recognize this and thus do their best not to harm others in any way.

All the principles of the Gospel of Oneness, if followed, will make life better for everyone.  So even if there is no God or eternal life, at least this life on earth will be better for most people.  Our precious lives have too often been cut short by unnecessary violence.  When you consider all the past wars and  the countless people who have been killed, you would think that people do believe that life just goes on after death, or that it is ultimately worthless anyway

It seems that everyone has to make a choice about this, consciously or unconsciously.  The Gospel of Oneness asks you to  please let your natural love come to the forefront of all your decisions about life.
