February 9 by The Running Son
The Devil spoke, and said,
‘the blood in your eyes will be measured’,
so we assumed the position
while muscles slushed
and our pale skin plumped and flared varicose.
Sunrise was perky pink and spun off.
Afternoon came on exhale.
You all sub-atomic stared
straight through us. The vacuum bares down.
to extinguish static salting every raw neuron.
Hot, we’ll up and snap off
the gravel—your voice,
the feed sub-seeding to sand, and at forty days
we’ll bathe, and find life
in the void and watch our rich blood drain back.
