desert folk are a particular type.
trust me it takes a soft skin bitch
from the ingratiating climes of orange county
to intuit fully the preserving genius of sand
and candid grit. true the jug is alamo-like
in its stubborn decomposition and slow
drains among the yucca, but beneath
the joshua’s disorienting fist no one
not even some sea born schlepper
over curious about deep desert
applications of social thermodynamics
can escape the sun’s contempt
while monitoring blooms, like me,
too quick to dry
and prune.

being a desert creature i rarely sweat and so need less of h2o, surprising my humid friends – hey no water? – there the cactii do bloom – who said those pitiful excuses for plants cant bloom – we do but take care if you sniff for fragrance it might translate as putrid in your innocent minds – being a specialist , loved ‘genius of sand’ and ‘can escape the sun’s contempt’
